The best way to describe this cookbook is "good old-fashioned recipes with simple, and wholesome ingredients". In addition, Karel's cookbook includes a list of pantry basics, cooking terms, and many helpful kitchen hints. All of the recipes are easy to follow and require simple ingredients.

• 2 c. sugar
• 1 3/4 c. flour
• 3/4 c. cocoa
• 1 1/2 t. baking powder
• 1 1/2 t. baking soda
• 1 t. salt
• 2 eggs
• 1 c. whole or 2% milk
• 1/2 c. canola oil
• 2 t. vanilla
• 1 c. boiling water
• Frosting:
• 1 stick butter
• 2/3 c. cocoa
• 3 c. powderd sugar
• 1/3 c. milk
• 2 t. vanilla

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Use 2 greased and floured 9 inch pans. Mix sugar, cocoa and rest of dry ingredients in a mixer. Add eggs, milk, vanilla, oil and then boiling water, on very low speed. Pour into pans and bake for 30 minutes.
