Date Bread

  • 2 c. sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 3 c. flour
  • 1 c. chopped dates
  • 2 c. boiling water
  • 3 T. margarine
  • 2 tsp. vanilla
  • 1 . chopped nuts
  • 2 tsp. baking soda
  • 2 c. boiling water
     
 
Pour boiling water containing soda, over dates. let stand until cool. Cream shortening, add sugar and eggs. Alternate date and water mixture 1/3 at a time with flour, when combining ingredients. Add vanilla and nuts. Lightly grease loaf pans with oil and fill pans 1/2 to 3/4 full. Bake 1 hour and 15 minutes in 325° oven.
