Bring sugar, vinegar, salt, and celery to boil. Cool. Layer cucumbers and onions in non-metallic bowl, crock, or large jar. Pour liquid over and cover.There will not be enough liquid to cover vegetables completely. As the pickles marinate, the liquid will increase. If you want to put these pickles in jars, wait until they marinate so there will be enough juice to cover. Keep in refrigerator. You can double this recipe easily.
